Families living near convicted paedophile Dennis Ferguson, south of Brisbane, say they will continue protesting until he is moved.

Police estimate almost 1,000 people attended a community meeting last night about Ferguson's move to the property.

Police Minister Judy Spence was booed and heckled during the three-hour meeting.

One of the people who made their feelings known to Ms Spence was Senior Constable Heather Steinfeld, who asked the Minister why she should be paid to protect a sex offender rather than children in the community.

Senior Constable Steinberg also told the meeting last night she was concerned for her own children's safety now that Ferguson is living nearby.

Acting Police Commissioner Kathy Rynders says Senior Constable Steinfeld's public criticism of the Government will not jeopardise her career.

"Her [Senior Constable Heather Steinberg's] career will not in any way suffer as a result of her speaking out as a concerned parent," she said.

"I think any member of the community who has family, who has children would be concerned about paedophiles - whether it be Dennis Ferguson or anyone else."
