A serving police officer has criticised the State
Government at a community meeting about convicted paedophile Dennis Ferguson.
Senior Constable Heather Steinberg was applauded by
the crowd when she questioned
"How do I as a police officer tell my
two-year-old and four-year-old daughters that it is my job via the Government
to protect him and not my children?" Constable Steinberg said.
Ms Spence was booed when she arrived at the
community meeting.
She spent almost three hours taking questions from
the audience and told the noisy meeting that the Government cannot force him to
move.
"I did not make this man a free man, the
courts did that," Ms Spence said.
"I'm sorry for that but we are going to take
responsibility to make sure that we keep this man safe and we keep you safe
from him."
